No Strokes Without Fire

13 Nov

On my way to work this morning, I listened to The Strokes’ “Is this It?” for the first time in a good few years. I’d forgotten just how great the Strokes are. It also made me realise that they’ve not released any new material since January 2006 and it doesn’t really look like anything is on the horizon either. Which is a real shame.

Don’t get me wrong, as much as I love Albert Hammond Jr’s solo material and the debut albums by Fab’s “Little Joy” and Nikolai’s cleverly named “Nickel Eye“, I am really hoping that 2009 sees the Strokes return.

Julian Casablancas is the main songwriter in the Strokes and has remained out of the limelight since the last batch of touring with the Strokes finished apart from contributing backing vocals to Queens of the Stone Age’s “Sick Sick Sick”. Maybe the success and fame became tiresome and he wanted to enjoy married life. I don’t know. It just feels a bit like the desire is no longer there… but who knows? One thing’s for certain however, the Strokes would be more than welcome should they decide to ever return.
